Manchester City Ladies  9 v 1 Hollingworth Juniors

  Report by : Lou Bowen

With yet another 2 gameless weekends having passed the girls were keen to get back on the pitch again and it showed from the start. City took control straight from kick off, with less than a minute gone Georgia had dribbled past the Hollingworth defence and put her shot just past the post, this was to be the first of many. By 3 minutes City were 1-0 up, Georgia, involved again, played a great through ball to the City forward Beth who slotted it home to give the girls the lead. Lauren P made it 2-0 after 5 minutes when the ball rebounded back to her to fire home. The defence of Sophie and Emma kept strong, thwarting any attacks by the opposition, this led to Sophie being able to move forward on the ball, link up with Beth and score her second of the season, 3-0. Following the goal a lapse of concentration let Hollingworth in who netted to make it 3-1. City kept up the pressure though and saw Lauren H have a hat trick of chances saved and a number of other players hitting the posts and shooting just wide. With just a few minutes to half time City never gave up and were rewarded with a fourth goal from Helen after another good City build up and a cross in from Georgia. The dying seconds of the half saw Lauren P’s shot tipped over the bar by the Hollingworth keeper.

Half time: 4-1

With a quick change of keeper for City, Amy came out and Lauren H went in, the girls got straight back into their attacking football. Beth started the ball rolling, when she shot wide and had another shot blocked resulting in a corner. Emma now in a midfield role took the corner, getting the ball in the air and over the Hollingworth defenders to Georgia who was unmarked and perfectly placed to volley home after 2 minutes, 5-1. The girls kept the pressure on with Helen and Beth linking up well to put in Emma who shot wide. Hollingworth still looking for their second looked to have beaten the City defence on a couple of occasions but Sophie, Chloe and Amy were always able to get back and win possession to start another attack. It wasn’t long before they scored their sixth though, another corner taken by Emma resulting in another goal for Georgia, 6-1. Amy then scored to make it 7-1, firing in a shot from the half way line which went over the keepers head and dipped under the bar. Lauren P regained possession after a poor ball out by the opposition’s keeper and calmly placed it past her to take the score to 8-1. The last ten minutes of the game saw Beth score her second as she followed in the rebound from her initial shot that hit the post to take the score to 9-1. City nearly made it ten after they were awarded a penalty for a push in the area but unfortunately Georgia put it wide. Lauren H in goal had little to do but had safe hands when called into action. A good performance by all the girls, well done.

Full Time: 9 – 1

 30 Oct

Manchester City Ladies   5  v  3  Denton Town

  Report by : Lou Bowen

After two weekends without games because of the weather, the girls were eager to get playing again. They got off to a great start with Beth scoring from Amy’s long throw after only 2mins, 1-0. Further pressure from city saw shots from Lauren go wide and get saved and Amy came close with her long-range effort hitting the crossbar with Helen having the rebound shot saved. With the defence partnership of Sophie and Amy keeping any Denton attacks at bay, City created many chances but were unable to convert them in this good spell of football. Poor refereeing saw Denton equalise on 20mins (say no more), 1-1, fortunately for city a good link up of passes between players saw Lauren play a great through ball to Georgia who slotted home to make it 2-1 going into the break.

Half time: 2-1

City got straight back into the attack from the whistle, with good play down the line, a shot from Amy saved and Lauren shooting just over the cross bar all the pressure was from City who were looking good for their third goal. A number of long throws by Amy kept the City attack up and saw Georgia heading just wide. Against the run of play, a long ball up from Denton managed to elude the City keeper and go over her head into the goal, 2-2. From the restart City were quick to attack and Georgia’s quick feet took her past the Denton players, she crossed the ball and found Beth who finished the move by scoring, 3-2. After further attacks from City, Lauren shooting just wide again, it was Denton’s turn to attack they won a corner and scored from it to make the game 3 all. City never gave up though and Beth buried a rebound, spilled by the Denton GK, to get her hat trick and give City the lead once more. A quick change of keeper for City, Beth went in net to allow Emma out, the girls continued with their attacking football. A free kick won by City late in the game was taken by Amy who powered it into the net to make the final score 5-3. Another good result for the girls, they had to work hard for the win, but keep the pressure up on 1st placed team Hopwood.

Manchester City Ladies  7  v  2   Hyde United

  Report by : Louise Bowen

This week the girls were looking to build on their success of last weekend, but it was not to go there way from the start. With the wind against them and having to play up-hill there was lots of early pressure from Hyde who scored after 5mins from a corner. Disappointed the girls put it behind them and fought on. There efforts were rewarded 10mins later, with Georgia making an excellent run from the halfway line and slotting the ball home to make it 1-1. Less than 5mins later Georgia was on the score sheet again this time after some good play from the whole team, to make it 2-1. The last 10mins of the half saw the play going from end to end, with Beth shooting and watching the ball go inches wide of the post on a couple of occasions. Hyde got it back square in the dying seconds though to go in at half time two a piece.

Half time: 2-2

With the wind and slope in their favour there was no stopping the City girls, less than 2mins into the half Lauren saw her shot being saved by the Hyde keeper and Helen put the rebound just wide. Keeping up the pressure City won a corner, which saw Lauren P. getting the ball into the danger area and Beth hitting home to make it 3-2. Hyde tried to break through time and again but the strong defence of Sophie and Amy broke down any attacks. It wasn’t long before Amy got involved in the attacking action, a long throw by her saw the ball back in the Hyde area and after a goal mouth scramble Beth put it in the back of the net, 4-2. Kick off saw City quickly regaining possession with Amy winning the ball and having a long range shot resulting in a corner. Taken by Lauren P, Beth got on the end of the corner but the keeper was there once again to save it but she couldn’t stop Georgia putting the rebound away for her hat trick and a 5-2 lead. With 15mins to go Emma (City’s GK) switched with Helen to come out for a run-around and what a run-around it was. She got knocked in the face but recovered to go and score her first goal of the season. It wasn’t the end of the action either, with 2mins to go Sophie played a long ball up field, which was buried by Emma for her second goal of the game making the final score 7-2 to city. A great team performance by the girls.

Full Time: 7 – 2

Medlock Rangers  2  v  0  Manchester City Ladies

  Report by : Kevin Potts

A disappointing day for all.  Due to some confusion and illnesses the already small squad was reduced to only 4 arriving on time for kick-off.  The match was delayed while 2 more players were drafted in, but due to the delay the result was awarded to Medlock without a ball being kicked.  A friendly was played instead; giving much needed match practise which saw Man City Ladies winning 2-1, with one of the goals coming from Helen Mutter.
Well done and thanks to all those who played. Hopefully with an increased squad this will not have to be repeated.

Stalybridge Celtic  0 v  3  Manchester City Ladies

  Report by : Kevin Potts

Stalybridge Celtic 0 - 3 Man City Ladies (Lauren P[2], Beth)

This is a newly formed team and was their first game they had played together.  After a slow start which could only be expected, City started to take control of the game, dominating the possession in all areas of the field.  City did most of the attacking, but Stalybridge still had several chances, which saw Emma Hill bring off some brilliant saves.  The constant pressure finally paid off with another driving move from midfield which released Lauren Pershouse who slotted past the keeper with ease.

This was how the first half finished (0-1).

Second half continued in the same vein as the first had ended, City forging forward with good play from Georgia Phillips & the 2 Lauren's (Pershouse & Hutcheson) in midfield, while Beth Connolly in attack kept plugging away at the defence, finally paying dividends with a well taken move and finish by Beth. The defence of Sophie Downey & Amy Potts stayed solid throughout, limiting Stalybridge to long range efforts, which with Emma in superb performance, never looked liked conceding a goal.  City kept on pressurising with good link play from back to front, and again Lauren Pershouse drove forward and slotted a well worked goal. This was how the game finished (0-3).

This was an excellent team performance for a first outing, and looks promising for the season, as the team will improve with every game. Well done girls and thanks to all who watched and helped on the day.

Player of the Match - Lauren Pershouse

Urmston Meadowside 1  V  2  Manchester City Ladies

  Report by : Becky Russell

The first half saw both City and Urmston having equal possession. Holly Brady and Jade Bove had a couple of long range shots on goal only to be denied by Urmston's keeper.

The second half looked more promising for city. Jae Bowers returned to City's line up, having been out for a couple of weeks, to start the second half. She played fantastic having a long range shot which hit the post. 21 Minutes into the 2nd half Holly Brady took a shot on goal which the keeper saved but Holly was there to tap the rebound giving city a 1-0 lead.

Urmston responded only 4 minutes later catching city on the break. All of the Urmston players scrabbled into the box confusing city into who was marking who. It paid off for Urmston who got a goal back causing a 1-1 draw. To give City credit they kept on the attack creating a well deserved goal 3 minutes later. Holly Brady once again was there to put away the goal giving City the lead back. Jade Bove organised city’s defence heading the ball away at every opportunity and Allish Keeley kept City's lead by diving to save Urmston's last attempt to equal the score.

City's best game this season having put into practice everything they have learnt throughout the year.

Heyside Angels  0  V  2  Manchester City Ladies

  Report by : Becky Russell

This was not one of City’s best games. The first half saw very scrappy play by City. They waited for the ball to come to them, they wouldn’t commit to tackles and only a few passes were strung together. Jade Bove scored in the 24 minute with a well-deserved goal and seem to have an outstanding first half by fighting for possession.

Half Time  0 - 1

The second half improved slightly with City stringing together a few good passes. Once again Jessica Stanley had an impressive game in defence and Jade Bove started the second half the same as the first by getting stuck in. Ten minutes before the final whistle Jade Bove gave a good corner which, from the sidelines, looked like it curled into the goal and bounced out. Vicki Grimshaw tapped the rebound into the back of the net just to make sure it was a goal.

Overall not a good game by City’s standards but deserved the win.

Special mentions to Vicki Grimshaw who scored on her debut. Well done Vicki.

Manchester City Ladies  7 v 1  Heyside Angels

  Report by : Becky Russel

This game started with both teams scrapping for possession. Jamie Smith gave city the lead six minutes in. Not too long after Jade Bove confirmed city’s lead with a powerful shot that the goalkeeper just couldn’t keep out.
Heyside came back at City before half time, scoring a good goal that Allish Keeley had no chance saving.

Half Time:  2 - 1

The second half saw city with most of the possession. Jade Bove scored her second with a well worked goal using her left foot and Sophie Atkinson got a hatrick showing superb skill in the box. Jade Bove then also got a third to give her a hatrick and to confirm city’s tremendous lead. Ten minutes before the final whistle Sophie Atkinson stood up to allow Allish Keeley to play in midfield. Sophie Atkinson proved she has multiple talents by keeping two good efforts by Heyside a few minutes before the final whistle.

Special mentions to Jessica Stanley who played in defence and put some vital tackles in and Emma Watson who supported both defence and attack to set up both Sophie and Jade.

Manchester City Ladies  2  v  2 Urmston Meadowside

  Report by : Becky Russel

City got off to a good start winning a penalty 6 minutes in. Abbie Carrington stood up to take it, blasting a confident penalty past the keeper making sure she had no chance. City then failed to clear the ball letting Urmston score twice within a few minutes from scrambles in the box. City didn't give up. Alilsh Keeley made some superb saves and Abbie Carrington supported both defence and attack winning some vital challenges. Just before half time Holly Green put a couple of strong challenges and created a good pass to Sophie Atkinson who took a good first touch and blasted it pass the keeper.

The second half saw both teams creating chances. City were close to winning it, getting shots blocked and just wide. Holly Brady was denied just before final whistle by the keeper and you felt Abbie was close to scoring as she took on player after player. Overall every player played extremely well, being strong on the ball which both Roger and Becky have been trying to improve all year.

Tameside Girls   2  v  5  Manchester City Ladies

  Report by : Roger Bryan

City got off to a great start with some good football and a good team move ending with Holly Brady cooly side footing past the keeper. Sophie showed good awareness and positioning to score the next two, showing she has a good eye for goal. Tameside then scored to make the game a bit nerve racking, till Emma scored her first City goal with a left foot rocket into the top corner.

Second half saw Tameside once again bring the game tight with their second goal.
This game saw some good passing from City, along with much more tackling and determination, which Roger and Becky have been asking for in the last few matches.
Jamie then showed good composure to finish the game off with a well taken goal.

Urmston Meads  5  v  2  Manchester City Ladies

  Report by : Roger Bryan

City were half asleep at the kick off and were behind within a minute. After that City responded well with a goal from Jade that the keeper couldn't hold. She then scored the best goal of the season so far, when she hit a powerful shot high into the net from a very wide angle.

After this City failed to get their challenges in, and allowed Urmston to score two easy goals before half time.
The second half saw both teams creating many chances, City hit the post and had shots just wide and blocked. Ailish was once again in superb form, keeping City in the match with some great saves. But some good passing and movement saw Urmston finish off the game with 2 well worked goals.
Special mention must be made for Natalie, who made her debut for City in midfield, showing some good passion and energy in a very tough game.

A great performance from all the girls, who finally got the victory they have deserved for the last few weeks. City were on top from the start, and it took 7 minutes for the first goal to come. Everything came well together at the same time today; passing, dribbling and shooting and the goals kept on coming. For once Ailish didn't have too much to do, and was able to come out in the second half and get a goal herself. Jess and Ellise came out of defence in the second half and also contributed to the goals. Ellise in her first City game of the season managed a hat trick, as did Jade, Sophie and Jamie.

Denton Town  5  v  4  Manchester City

  Report by : Roger Bryan

City deserved to take the lead after 10 minutes when Jamie hit another powerful shot from well outside the area. City only kept the lead for a couple of minutes, before Denton equalised, and then went on to score 3 more times before half time. This in spite of another great defensive performance from Jess, and Ailish, who once again did'nt let the side down with a handful of great saves yet again.
The second half saw City in more determined mind, and competing more for the ball. A superb match by Jade, and she certainly deserved her well taken hat trick, showing pace, power and composure for her goals.
Jess set a great example in tackling and passing, as she came forward to help out in midfield whenever she could. Sophie showed good determination and skill on her debut, as City started to play more like a team.
With 8 minutes to go Denton were awarded a 5th goal, which many spectators didn't think had crossed the line. But the City girls showed good character when the referee had made up her mind, and got on with the game. Chances came, as Denton defended desperately, but once again time and luck were not with City today.

Stockport slightly had the better of the first half, scoring early. City showed a lot more team spirit and Jamie scored City's first league goal  with a great long range shot. With many players still away, Alex Brooks and Chloe Ferguson came into the team from the U10s. Alex had a fantastic 1st half in goal, and then played equally well on the right side. Hopwood are a strong side and in the second half the goals kept coming, though the City girls didn't give up. Manchester City  4  v  1 Denton Town

Report by : D Brady

This was the city girls first game for a couple of weeks after yet another mini break in their season and for a change there was glorious weather. City started the more dominant team with GEORGIA BROUGHAM testing the Denton goalkeeper several times in the first few minutes, this was followed by CHLOE FERGUSON, MASA BUTLER and HEATHER BOOTH all firing shots in at goal, but the Denton goalkeeper equal to them each time. Just when everyone thought it was going to be one of those days the midfield trio of GEORGIA, CHLOE and HEATHER put together a great move for MASA BUTLER to put a great finish into the roof of the net. MASA quickly followed this with another goal shortly after to give city a deserved clear lead. With the defensive duo of KATIE TAYLOR and KASSIE BUTCHER and our stand in goalie COURTNEY FAWCETT dealing with the Denton attack comfortably we decided to make some changes with LAURA LONERGAN and PARIS ROGERS coming on for KASSIE and MASA

HALF TIME 2-0

City started the second half exactly the same way as they ended the first with LAURA and PARIS both going close. GEORGIA, CHLOE and HEATHER all went close again before HEATHER BOOTH burst through the Denton town defence and fired into the bottom corner of the net giving the excellent Denton goalkeeper no chance to make it 3-0 .Just as city thought they had made the game safe Denton finally got through the solid city defence to make it 3-1.This didn't affect city's style and they replied in the only way they know ,LAURA LONERGAN chased down another lost cause just like she had been doing since coming on ,she retrieved the ball from the corner flag and fired a cross into the Denton penalty area and the ball fell nicely for PARIS ROGERS to shoot low across the goalkeeper to make it 4-1.After this KASSIE and KATIE were reunited in defence, along with COURTNEY in net they were rarely troubled again allowing the rest of the team to dominate for the remainder of the game and remain unbeaten for the season with one game to go.

Manchester City  4  v  0  Hopwood Girls

Report by : D Brady

This was city’s first league game for nearly a month after the Easter break and the pitches being vandalised .we did however play a friendly in Blackpool against Thornton Clevleys a hard game against much stiffer opposition which city won 1-0 with the only goal coming from COURTNEY FAWCETT.

City played a much changed team putting some of there more influential players on the subs bench to try and give other players the chance to show just how much they have improved from the start of the season.
They did just that playing against a much improved Hopwood side who’s attacking game put city on the back foot right from the start forcing them defend as a unit something that they haven’t had to do that often this season.

After surviving this initial onslaught city started to play their own game which is passing and moving the ball around just waiting for the right time to strike.

City took the lead midway through the first half when an in swinging corner from GEORGIA BROUGHAM took a deflection off a defender on its way in, but GEORGIA is claiming the gaol as hers and its one that will go up on her tally for the season. Hopwood’s heads dropped a little allowing city to push forward looking to extend their lead with LARUA, MASA and PARIS al forcing the keeper to save.

HALF-TIME 1-0

With the weather taking a turn for the worse, the rain was coming down and the wind was getting stronger city were using their subs more regular so as no one was stood on the side lines for too long, with this in mind HEATHER, CHLOE and BECKY all came on to cause Hopwood more problems shooting on site when they got a chance.

It was this strategy that worked for CHLOE FERGUSON when she shot from outside the area into the bottom corner to double city’s lead.

Next to score was PARIS ROGERS when she latched onto a great through ball from BECKY GREGORY to see her shot creep over the line despite the best efforts of the goal keeper.

With city attacking at ever opportunity the defensive duo of KASSIE BUTCHER and KATIE TAYLOR were having a much quieter second half as was COURTNEY FAWCETT who impressed in between the sticks.
City were virtually camped out in the Hopwood area and it was HEATHER BOOTH who finished off the scoring to make it 4-0

FULL TIME 4-0

Manchester City  1  v  0  Heyside Juniors

Report by : D Brady

City went into this match needing only a draw to make sure of the league title but they were determined to win both the game and league in style. The opponent’s Heyside on the other hand needed a win to keep their own slim chances of the title alive.

With both sets of girls knowing what was a stake the first 5 minutes were nervous ones with no one wanting to make any mistakes that could cost them a goal, city however were the first to settle the nerves when MASA BUTLER’S shot went just wide of the right hand post.

City grew into the game after that with the midfield trio of LAURA LONERGAN, CHLOE FEREGUSON and GEORGIA BROUGHAM all retained possession helping city attack but also helping HEATHER BOOTH, KASSIE BUTCHER and KATIE TAYLOR out in defence on the odd occasion that Heyside ventured out of their own half.

Then came the only goal of the game when CHLOE crossed the ball into the area when it bounced up onto the arm of the Heyside defender which was raised but it was still a tough call for the ref to make but it went in city favour so can’t complain to much. City’s leading scorer CHLOE FERGUSON stepped up to hit the ball powerfully straight through the goalkeepers despairing dive to put city into the lead. City then kept possession and saw the half out.

HALF TIME 1-0

For once the sun was shining and the temperature was climbing, it was too hot for some of the girls to be running around for the full 40 minutes so changes were made and all the subs that came on just took over from the girls that they replaced.

Both BECKY GREGORY and PARIS ROGERS came on and ran themselves into the ground both in defence and attack creating chances that on any other day they would have scored but for the strong heyside defence and good goal keeping.

It was that defence that Heyside relied on hoping to catch city on the break which with about 8 minutes to go they did, their forward was clean through on goal when she shot only to see LEAH (fog horn) FISH dive to her right to parry the ball into the path of two more of the Heyside team, LEAH was first to react diving in where feet were flying to smother the ball and put and end to the first real Heyside attack of the game.

This save lifted city’s tired legs that were now not only having to cope with the heat but kicking up the slope.

But city held on to the ball denying Heyside any other opportunity to score and maybe should have got a second late on but 1-0 was enough and city were the ones celebrating when the ref blew the full time whistle.
HEATHER BOOTH once again shown why she is at the heart of everything city does by covering every inch of the pitch and doing her captain’s job by encouraging the other girls when they missed a tackle or chance of a goal.

All credit must go to Heyside who have pushed city all the way league. With this win City have secured the league title with 3 games to spare but they will not rest until the last game as they try and go the season undefeated.

Report by : D Brady

Due to the Great British weather there has been no football foe the past few weeks but fortunately this game was played in bitterly cold conditions with the occasional snow flurry which wasn’t ideal for kid’s football but the game must go on.
City started the game in explosive fashion with BECKY GREGORY following up on a CHLOE FERGUSON shot to tap the ball home, 1 minute gone and city were 1-0 up.
This enabled city to play the ball around the pitch creating many chances but were kept at bay by the goalkeeper having their obligatory great game against city and with city hitting the post 3 times it felt that we wouldn’t score again before half time. City then made three changes with MASA,GEORGIA and PARIS replacing COURTNEY,HEATHER and CHLOE and the change worked because PARIS ROGERS did exactly what was asked of her to score her 10th goal of the season to make it 2-0.

HALF TIME 2-0

With LEAH (fog horn) FISH not getting a touch of the ball in the first half BECKY GREGORY volunteered to go in goal allowing LEAH to try and add to her tally for the season.
City started the second half in the same fashion as the first with COURTNEY FAWCETT chasing down a long ball to shoot past the unprotected keeper to claim her first goal in the blue of man city. It was wave after wave of city attacking the heyside goal with MASA BUTLER adding a fourth before CHLOE FERGUSON ran past three heyside defenders before curling the ball into the opposite corner to score the best goal of the day. PARIS ROGERS then added another and set LAURA LONERGAN to round of a good day for all connected with city.
With HEATHER BOOTH off the pitch it was up to KASSIE BUTCHER to take on the defensive responsibility, a role that she grew into to have her best game in city colours to date

Manchester City  3  v  0  Stockport County

Report by : D Brady

City went into this game feeling confident of a victory after winning the first game 12-1 but this was a much improved Stockport side that made city scrap and fight for everything and they did themselves proud.
The conditions weren’t ideal for playing football even though the sun was shining it was bitterly cold with a fresh wind blowing adding to the uneven pitch to make matters worse.
City made the most of the big pitch trying to pass the ball around in midfield trying to feed COURTNEY FAWCETT who was denied her fist goal for city by some great goalkeeping. City did take the lead midway through the first half when CHLOE Ferguson’s shot rebounded off the crossbar to the feet of GEORGIA BROGHAM whose shot was parried by the keeper only for LAURA LONERGAN to be on hand to slot the ball home.

HALF TIME 1-0

City made changes at half time with LEAH FISH swapping places with COURTNEY who went in goal. PARIS ROGERS continued her run of coming on as sub and scoring when she tapped home after some good work on the left by the other sub MASA BUTLER. City created the more chances with KASSIE BUTCHER and LEAH FISH joining the midfield trio by going close but for some strong defending. City was rewarded for all their hard work when GEORGIA BROUGHAM took on two defenders and slotted the ball passed the keeper into the bottom corner. The city defence lead by Captain HEATHER BOOTH who covered every blade of grass along with KASSIE BUTCHER and KATIE TAYLOR all did their jobs so well that the two keepers used didn’t get a touch all game.
With this victory and other results city now sit proudly at the top of the table with a nine point gap and only five games left to play.

Report by : D Brady

City were going up against a much improved Heyside team looking for three goals to reach 100 for the season and trying to maintain the seven point advantage at the top of the table.
City went on the attack right from the kick off with CHLOE FERGUSON, LAURA LONERGAN and BECKY GREGORY all testing the heyside keeper who with only four minutes on the clock had saved five certain goals for city.

But she was beaten soon after when GEORGIA BROUGHAM ran through the Heyside defence to slide the ball into the bottom corner. The Heyside players tried to attack the city defence but when they did the defensive trio of KATIE TAYLOR, HEATHER BOOTH and KASSIE BUTCHER did their jobs well by averting the danger and setting the team on another attack from which CHLOE FERGUSON claimed a hat-trick within five first half minutes the second being the 100th goal of the season

HALF TIME 4-0

For the second half city made a few changes with new girl COURTNEY FAWCETT going in goal for LEAH (fog horn) FISH and I also pushed both KATIE TAYLOR and KASSIE BUTCHER upfront to try and claim their first goals of the season. Both changes worked when first LEAH scored from edge of the area, she must count Heyside as her lucky side because she grabbed a hat-trick last time we played them. City then tried their hardest to get KASSIE and KATIE on the score sheet and it paid off when KASSIE took two tries to get the ball over the line for her first goal of the season. PARIS ROGERS also went close on a few occasions before it turned into the KATIE TAYLOR show for the last ten minutes when every chance and pass fell to her and she would have broke her duck if not for the Heyside keeper who saved everything that city threw at her. KATIE shown that she has got the passing and shooting ability to push for a place in midfield every week. COURTNEY played well on her debut and is a good addition to the squad.

Tameside 5 A Side Tournament

  Report by :

TEAM 'A' REPORT

What a tremendous day for Man City Ladies F C under 10’s. They travelled to Copley Sports Centre, Stalybridge to enter the Tameside 5 a side competition. Fielding two strong teams they were hopeful of good results due to the marvellous play of the girls throughout the season!

Team A consisted of Georgia Brougham/Heather Booth/Courtney Fawcett/Chloe Ferguson/Alex Brooks and Katie Taylor.

They started the tournament with a cracking performance against Hopwood B winning 8-0. Georgia scoring 4, Heather 2 and Chloe 2.

Their next game against Urmston Tigers was a winner too. The girls won 4-0 with Chloe scoring another 2, Heather 1 and Katie Taylor taking a penalty and scoring her first goal of the season!

Their following game was against Denton Blues. Brilliant performances again from all girls…a special mention going to Heather who scored yet another and Georgia scoring a further 2 to end the game 3-0.

Their fourth game against Northside A was won 3-1. Georgia scoring another 2 to take her total to 8 and Alex coming out of nets to score her first goal also!

Their last game was against Denton Town and again the girls performances were outstanding…their teamwork and skill outshone the other team. The game finished 8-0 taking them into the semi-finals. Chloe scored 2, Georgia another 4, Heather 1 and Courtney 1…….well done to Courtney who was playing with the girls in her first competitive matches!

The Semi –Final was a very emotional game for the A team as they encountered their fellow team mates the B team who also showed just how good Man City Ladies are proving to be by getting to the semi-finals too!
Understandingly this was an excellent match with both teams playing fantastic.
Georgia scored 2 goals and took the A team through to the finals.

Whilst the A team were delighted there was much disappointment felt for their fellow players. A difficult time for both teams.

The final showed a well deserved win for Man City Ladies. It was well fought and all city players, though thoroughly exhausted, played with grit and determination. The game finished 2-2 after a late goal by Denton Reds. Extra time was played and the girls ended the match by winning 3-2. Heather scoring 1 and Georgia scoring 2.

May we congratulate the A team on their win and the B team for reaching the semi final and take time to thank all girls for their excellent playing and teamwork!

A special mention must also go to the parents for their support and encouragement as always and a big thank you to Neil and Mark for their help with the team. Both guys were apprehensive of their first “coaching positions” but proved themselves to be good “future coaches”!!

TEAM 'B' REPORT

The B Team got off to a steady start with a draw in their first game against Urmston Lions. Holly scored to make it one all. With a lot of new rules to remember and some over keen referees, this was not going to be an easy competition!

The girls settled down in the second game, with a 2-1 win over Hopwood A. The goals again came from Holly but excellent goal keeping from Leah, saving shots on goal and penalties, kept her team in the game.

The team went on to win two out of the next three games. More names were added to the City score sheet, with Becky & Laura scoring two goals each. With four more goals from Holly, excellent support play from Masa and great defending by Kassie, the team secured their place in the semi finals.

The semi final was a new experience for some of the girls, as they had to play against their team mates in the City A team! The whole team put in a good performance, with Leah saving yet another penalty, which unfortunately had to be retaken resulting in a goal. Despite all their efforts they could not find the back of the net and a second goal from the A team sealed the match.

Manchester City  Ladies  9  v  0 Urmston Girls

  Report by : Daren Brady

This was city’s first game for over a month due to the weather and Christmas, and there were some nerves on my part that the players might have been a bit rusty but the players certainly didn’t show any signs of any.
City started the game well and passed the ball around well while avoiding some over enthusiastic tackles from the Urmston players when MASA BUTLERS shot was followed up by CHLOE FERGUSON who tapped the ball home.
The midfield trio of GEORGIA BROUGHAM, LAURA LONERGAN and CHLOE FERGUSON started to dictate the play and all three combined well to set up both MASA BUTLER and CHLOE FERGUSON to claim another three goals with CHLOE getting her hat-trick. With the score at 4-0 Urmston tried to get back into the game but the defensive duo of HEATHER BOOTH and KATIE TAYLOR were well marshalled by LEAH (fog horn) FISH who saved well from Urmston’s only shot of the first half.

HALF TIME 4-0

City continued where they left off in the first half pushing forward and attacking every time they had the ball, with GEORGIA BROUGHAM running Urmston almost at will and she set up both MASA BUTLER for her second and CHLOE FERGUSON for her fourth when she could have easily scored herself. The two subs that come on in the first half KASSIE BUTCHER and BECKY GREGORY just slotted into place and it was a long ball from KASSIE that CHLOE retrieved from the corner and cut inside onto her left and shoot right into the opposite top corner. BECKY GREGORY then followed up a GEORGIA shot that was parried by the keeper to slot home from a tight angle. CHLOE FERGUSON then claimed her sixth and city’s ninth of the game to take her on level pegging with MASA at the top of the goal scoring chart both with 16 each

  Report by : Daren Brady

City were up against a Denton side who were unbeaten since the 10-1 defeat to city way back in September but they gifted us a goal within 30 seconds when LAURA LONERGAN,S shot was saved by the keeper but she then managed to carry it over the line. City were lifted by this and they continuously pressed the Denton defence with MASA BUTLER just shooting wide before CHLOE FERGUSON,S shot from fully 25 yards rattled in off the underside of the bar.

Denton then tried to hit back and show why they were unbeaten in 6 and would have got on the score sheet but for some excellent defensive play by both KATIE TAYLOR and KASSIE BUTCHER, these two were backed up between the sticks by LEAH (fog horn) FISH who’s improved kicking is making her the more complete keeper with every game.

HALF TIME-2-0

City scored first after the break when PARIS ROGERS got on the end of a GEORGIA BROUGHAM ball to slot it coolly into the back of the net.

City were full of confidence and were passing the ball around and playing one twos with each other and this enabled CHLOE FERGUSON to add another before Denton scored from a corner to make it 4-1.
Denton’s heads went up after the goal and they piled the pressure on city but city just hit back in the only way they know how by scoring and it was GEORGIA BROUGHAM who did it by scoring two near identical goals when she ran through the Denton defence to slot the ball into the bottom corner on both occasions.

LAURA LONERGAN then came back on and scored two more to get her first hat-trick of the season to take her tally to 10 for the season. city could have had a few more by the end with the ever improving BECKY GREGORY who had her best game to date and captain marvel HEATHER BOOTH both trying their hardest to score but when they didn’t they just got on with helping the team score their goals.

  Report by : Daren Brady

-
City showed great bouncebackability to get back to winning ways after last weeks draw by totally dominating this game from start to finish how we came away from the game only 3-0 winners is only because of the Poynton goalkeeper HELEN JOHNSON almost saved everything that city threw at her with a little help from the wood work.
City started the game in their usual fashion , attacking right from the off with MASA BUTLER going close after a good effort from CHLOE FERGUSON was saved by the keeper.
City continued to raid the Poynton goal with BECKY GREGORY and HEATHER BOOTH both denied by the keeper and GEORGIA BROUGHAM was unlucky when her long range shot rattled the cross bar and out to safety. When ever Poynton did get an attack together both KASSIE BUTCHER and KATIE TAYLOR along with HEATHER BOOTH dealt with the threat and promptly set city onto another attack.

HALF TIME 0-0

Poynton started the second half with their first real attack that troubled LEAH (fog horn) FISH which gave her first touch of the game. Then it was GEORGIA BROUGHAM, S turn to shine by constantly running at the Poynton defence and she was finally rewarded for her hard work by first setting up PARIS ROGERS to lob the keeper to make it 1-0 and by taking on 4 Poynton players and coolly slotting the ball into the net to make it 3-0 these two efforts sandwiched a LAURA LONERGAN low shot into the corner.
City again were held together by HEATHER BOOTH who can be the furthest player forward one minute and by the last defender the next

Northside Girls  1  v  1   Manchester City  Ladies

  Report by : Daren Brady

North side were keen to avenge the 5-0 defeat from earlier in the season and they fielded a few new players to help their cause and they shown their intentions by shooting straight from the kick off.

Once the game got started city passed the ball around well creating a few chances but this turned out to be a game where the defensive side to city’s game was going to be tested and the defensive duo of KATIE TAYLOR and KASSIE BUTCHER passed that test and provided a solid platform from which the rest of the team could build off and break down a very physical north side team. As it turned out it was north side who scored first when their captain CHEALSEA FLANAGAN scored straight from a free kick awarded when LEAH FISH was pulled up for handling outside her ever decreasing penalty area but apart from that city were playing the better football and were unlucky to get to half time 0-1 down

HALF TIME 0-1

After the break city came out and attacked at every opportunity with the midfield trio of GEORGIA BROUGHAM, CHLOE FERGUSON and HEATHER BOOTH all going close as did the two subs PARIS ROGERS and BECKY GREGORY who came on and tried their hardest to get city back into it but like the rest of the time north side got anything in front of the ball. LEAH (fog horn) FISH made up for her earlier mistake with a fine save to stop north side going two in front.

City finally got the goal they deserved when GEORGIA BROUGHAM, s shot took a slight deflection and went in which lead to the other team claiming it was an own goal but it was going in so GEORGIA is claiming it to add to her growing tally for the season, from then on it was all city and we could have scored right at the death when LAURA LONERGAN, s shot just went the wrong side of the post.

In the last two games city have shown that they are not all about attacking and scoring goals but that they can defend as well and they are showing that they are capable of mixing the attacking and defensive sides of their game with the best of the other teams

  Report by : Daren Brady

This was just the sort of game that city needed someone to give them a real test and let the defence and goalkeeper show just how much they have come on as a unit from the start of the season.
City started off kicking down hill and took full advantage of the slope by scoring in the second minute when GEORGIA BROUGHAM capitalised on a mistake by the goalkeeper to tap the ball into an empty net, after that city had the majority of the possession and a few chances to score but Denton were always looking to hit city on the break and nearly did on a few occasions but for some excellent work by the city defence.
GEORGIA BROUGHAM then settled any nerves on the city touch line by bagging her second of the game after some good work from MASA BUTLER.

HALF TIME 2-0

After the break city continued to pass the ball around and create chances but were kept out by a strong defence and some good goalkeeping, but as much as city attacked Denton always looked to attack but city defended well as a team something that they have not had to do a lot of lately with everyone of them doing their part in defending the teams unbeaten start to the season. HEATHER BOOTH must have covered every blade of grass in her new role as captain and was voted player of the match by the opposition but was just piped to my award by GEORGIA BROUGHAM.

Manchester City  Ladies 12 v  0 Heyside Devils

  Report by : Daren Brady

City started this game in the same fashion as they have started all their games this year by scoring in the first minute through two goals from MASA BUTLER by way of two long range shots that both crept through the keeper’s hands. That was the only mistake that the keeper made because in the next 15 minutes she kept city at bay almost single handed with some brave goalkeeping, with city attacking at will it was the turn of PARIS ROGERS to grab two quick goals to ad to her reputation as a goal scoring sub. HEATHER BOOTH then powered her way through the Heyside defence to add her name to the score sheet.

HALF TIME 5-0

City changed things around for the second half with LEAH (fog horn) FISH coming out of net to play in midfield so she would at least get a touch and she did more than that by getting a hat-trick with the second of the three coming with a rasping shot that left the keeper needing treatment to her fingers such was the power of the shot.
City by this point had gone even further in front courtesy of a CHLOE FERGUSON solo effort and a trademark top corner shot from LAURA LONERGAN, it was then left to MASA BUTLER to round things off with another two goals that takes her tally to 14 for the season and keeps pressure on HOLLY BRADY at the top of the goal scoring chart.
City played some great passing football with KATIE TAYLOR, KASSIE BUTCHER at the heart of most moves along with BECKY GREGORY who didn’t get on the score sheet but played just as much a part in the match as the girls who did score. A special thank you goes to GEORGIA BROUGHAM who volunteered to go in net at half time and didn’t touch the ball again in the game.

  Report by : Daren Brady

This was city’s first outing for three weeks due to the weather but they continued from where they left off by getting there noses in front straight from kick off with both CHLOE FERGUSON and HOLLY BRADY getting a goal apiece within the first minute. After that city created the better chances of the two teams with GEORGIA BROUGHAM and CHLOE FERGUSON both adding a goal each before Stockport troubled city’s defence with there first attack which they scored from after some good individual skill from there forward line. Now it was the turn of the subs come off the bench and score with HEATHER BOOTH adding another two goals to her already goal tally for a defender and then MASA BUTLER added another one before half time.

HALF TIME 7-1

For the second half Stockport swapped goalkeepers which was surprising as the keeper in the first half had kept the score down with some great saves but she proved to be an all rounder because she proved to be just as good in defence helping keep city at bay for a good while until MASA BUTLER scored her second and LAURA LONERGAN rounded of a great move with a rasping shot into the top corner.
Then it became a race between MASA ,HEATHER and CHLOE as to who would get a hat-trick first but it was GEORGIA BROUGHAM who completed it first with two more fine goals, then CHLOE FERGUSON added her third right at the death to leave them both asking for take the match ball home.
Again I have to mention the rock solid trio of LEAH FISH, KATIE TAYLOR and KASSIE BUTCHER who might get on the score sheet but all our victories are built on top of there solid defending and good goalkeeping.

RESULT MAN CITY 12 V 0 HEYSIDE ANGELS

This was a clash between the top and bottom of the table, with city looking to extend their unbeaten run to six games and go further away at the top of the table and heyside looking for their first win of the season.
City got out of the blocks the better of the two teams creating chances right from the start and they were rewarded after 5 minutes when CHLOE FERGUSON drove the ball into the back of the net after a shot from BECKY GREGORY had been cleared of the line. From then on its was city attack after city attack which ended with BECKY GREGORY creating and scoring city’s second before HOLLY BRADY got two goals in quick concession to make it 4-0

HALF TIME-4-0

City were now kicking down hill and with the wind behind their backs and they didn’t take long to make the advantage tell with HOLLY BRADY getting her third and fourth of the game to take her tally to 13 goals in 6 games.
Then it was the turn of MASA BUTLER to get her second hat-trick of the season to take the score to 9-0.
PARIS ROGERS then continued her run of coming on as sub and scoring, this was followed by LAURA LONERGAN and HEATHER BOOTH who both added one apiece to make the score 12-0.
The city midfield and attackers were allowed to do their jobs and score the goals by some strong defending by both KASSIE BUTCHER and KATIE TAYLOR who were both well marshalled by LEAH (the fog horn) FISH who though she never touched the ball once in the 40 minutes managed to come off the pitch with the dirtiest kit at the end.

Manchester City  Ladies 13 v 0 Hopwood Girls

  Report by : Daren Brady

This was a game which looked tough on paper between two unbeaten teams, who were at the start of the day first and second in the league. Hopwood are normally a team that are very hard to beat but the way city play their football these days so are city so it should have been a close encounter.

City started the same way they have in the last few weeks that’s getting on the score sheet within the first minute when LAURA LONERGAN opened the scoring when she got a shot in after some good work from HOLLYB BRADY. Following that city took the game to Hopwood with HOLLY BRADY getting a quick fire hat-trick which was sandwiched in between goals from GEORGIA BROUGHAM and substitute BECKY GREGORY.

HALF TIME 6-0

City came out in the second half kicking down hill and with the wind behind them playing a great passing game for their age, which let HOLLY BRADY net her fourth of the game. Hopwood were now changing goalkeepers with nearly every goal that went in but it was a tactic that never worked as city subjected the Hopwood defence to wave after wave of attacking football with GEORGIA BROUGHAM getting a well deserved hat-trick and BECKY GREGORY and MASA BUTLER adding another goal each either side of PARIS ROGERS coming on and getting a brace which takes here tally to three for the season.

With all the play up the other end there wasn’t much to do for KATIE TAYLOR, KASSIE BUTCHER and HEATHER BOOTH but when they were called into action they did their jobs and set city on another attack, and the defence was marshalled well by LEAH FISH who hardly touched the ball, but kept the rest of the team on their toes with her non-stop talking.

This was city's fourth game of the season against a new team made from the merger of Fletcher Moss and Denton Town, so no one knew what to expect. city got of to the perfect start scoring straight from the kick off when MASA BUTLER tapped home after a mix up in defence let her in on goal. It go even better 30 seconds later when city dispossessed Denton and scored again with LAURA LONERGAN driving a low shot into the back of the net, one minute gone city 2-0 up.

After a start like that city relaxed and played a good passing game which got city another six goals before the break with MASA BUTLER getting her hat-trick, HOLLY BRADY got her own hat-trick and HEATHER BOOTH getting her fifth of the season not bad for a defender). with city 8-0 to the better Denton heads never went down and they brought three excellent saves from LEAH FISH who is improving with every game she plays between the sticks

HALF TIME 8-0

City began the second half pressing forward and again asking all the questions off Denton's substitute keeper but unlike in the first half everything stuck like glue in her gloves ,that was until MASA BUTLER claimed her fourth of the game and LAURA LONERGAN rounding of a great game with her second of the game and second of the season.

It was a good team performance with a special mention going to KASSIE BUTCHER, KATIE TAYLOR and GEORGIA BROUGHAM who didn't get on the score sheet but still played her part in the victory.

This was a game which was played in terrible conditions with the rain and wind blowing from start to finish. half time 6-0

in the second half Poynton made more of the game and took full advantage of the slope to get one goal back with Leah Fish getting only her second touch when picking the ball out of the net, after that city upped a level to add two more with Becky Gregory getting her second of the season and Heather Booth getting a well deserved hat trick. it was a good all round performance with Kassie Butcher and Laura Lonergan playing really well
